The job with the national team may not be up for grabs, but Hansi Flick’s role is under threat after a disastrous World Cup campaign in Qatar.
Germany have been eliminated at the group stage after a dramatic finale to their campaign on Thursday night, which ended with a 4-2 win over Costa Rica which did not prove to be enough.
The shock loss to Japan in their opening game proved very costly in the end, with the Japanese beating Spain on Thursday putting them through at the top of the group.
Flick’s future is not clear, he may well keep hold of his job, but the Liverpool manager has been touted as a possible replacement for him if he were to leave.
However, Klopp’s agent Marc Kosicke has ruled that out any chance of his client leaving Anfield before his contract ends in 2026, whatever job arises.
‘This is a media topic. Jürgen has a contract at Liverpool until 2026 and he intends to fulfil it,’ Kosicke told Sky Sports Germany.
Flick was asked about his future after elimination in Qatar and said: ‘We’ll work that out quickly, it’s difficult to answer now right after the game when we’re eliminated. We’ll see about that soon.’
On their campaign as a whole, he said: ‘If you look at the matches and number of goals, it is our fault. I am convinced we had sufficient chances and possibilities against Japan in the first half and also against Spain, you have to use your chances. It would have been a different situation.
‘There were a lot of individual mistakes and they make me very angry. The first half made me very upset and I told the team I was upset.”
‘Against Spain we worked very well, we had a compact defence, but you also have to have the automatisms, you have to train different actions and we did not have a lot of time – but it is not down to that.’
