The Supreme Court sitting in Abuja has struck out an appeal by Mr Mbam Ojemba Chikodili Fidelis challenging the victory of Senator Sam Egwu in the May 29 PDP primaries.

Egwu a two-time ex-governor of Ebonyi State is seeking for reelection to represent Ebonyi North Senatorial District in the National Assembly for the third time.

Recall that Ojemba, an aspirant in the last primary election of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ebonyi State that took place at the People’s Club Abakaliki, lost out to Senator Egwu who secured the highest vote cast.

Newspot gathered that Ojemba had since approached the Federal High Court in Abakaliki for what he termed a redress but the court struck out his matter for lack of merit.

He quickly appealed the judgement at the Appeal Court Enugu where his demand for retrieving the mandate from Egwu equally met waterloo as the Appeal Court upheld the judgement of the lower court.

Ojemba, who was not satisfied with the verdict of the Appeal Court, again appealed the judgement at the Supreme Court and the case has also been quashed for lacking in merit.

In a unanimous judgement delivered by the five-man panel led by Justice Okoro, the court threw out the suit for lacking in merit and affirmed the candidature of Senator Sam Egwu in the 2023 general elections.

Reacting to the judgement, counsel to Senator Egwu and the PDP, Barr Mudiaga Erhenede described the appeal of Ojemba as useless and applauded the court for sticking to justice.

Meanwhile, all efforts to reach Ojemba or his leading counsel proved abortive at the time of filing this report.
