The Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, on Monday declared open the Arepo-Journalist Estate Road, Arepo, in the Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of the state.
The 2.5km double lane road has culverts and drainages on both sides, dividers, street lights and traffic signs.
The road connects 41 neighbourhoods in the community and leads directly to the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
Speaking at the event, Abiodun stated that the project was a fulfilment of his administration’s promise to the community.
He said, “Today is another remarkable day in the history of the government and people of this great state.
“This is not just another commissioning but another commitment to the realisation of another projection meant to comfortably transform the lives of our people through our very focused policies and programmes.
“Many of you will recall that during my electioneering campaign in 2018/2019, I promised that I will reconstruct this road. This road had become a nightmare and was causing untold hardship to the people residing in this community.
“It was not unattended to by the previous government. All they had was a signboard saying they were reconstructing this road and that was were they started and were they stopped.
“I return today to celebrate and to fulfill that promise we made to you in 2018.”
In his goodwill message, the Olu of Arepo, Oba Atanda Oyebi, appreciated the governor for the road just as he recalled the horrors residents faced before its construction began.
He said, “We thank Governor Dapo Abiodun for the wonderful thing he has done in Arepo. The wonderful thing you have done came as a surprise to us because we never expected it.
“This Arepo road used to be waterlogged. When construction began, some people approached me to know if the governor would be able to fulfill the task.
“I told them that since the project had commenced, the governor will fulfill it.”
The monarch assured the governor of the community’s vote to enable his re-election come 2023, as a way of appreciating the good work he had done.
The event was graced by the Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Noimot Salako-Oyedele; the state head of service, Nafiu Aigoro; Toyin Taiwo and Commissioner for Works, Ade Akinsanya, amongst others.
The event was also graced by the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo; the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, who was represented by the Dagburewe of Idowa, Oba Yinusa Adekoya; the Olu of Ilaro, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, amongst others.
