Chelsea: Why Raheem Sterling isn’t in squad for Newcastle clash | Football

He was expected to start the clash at Newcastle, Chelsea’s last game before the season breaks for Qatar 2022.

However, the 27-year-old was surprisingly not even on the bench at St. James Park, with BT Sport reporting that Sterling had missed the game through illness but thankfully for England it is not said to be COVID-19 related.

This was confirmed by Chelsea manager Graham Potter, who said head of the match: ‘He was just ill yesterday. A bit of sickness.

‘Nothing too serious, just a few migraines for Raheem and he’s unable to travel.’

This should mean that Sterling should be perfectly fine to travel to Qatar and play in England’s first game against Iran on November 21.
