Chief Emmanuel Uduaghan, husband of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has spoken out for the first time following his wife’s public accusation of sexual harassment against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
In a statement released on Saturday night, Uduaghan affirmed his wife’s integrity and recounted how she had confided in him about her interactions with Akpabio. According to him, he initially approached the situation with maturity and responsibility, engaging the Senate President in a bid to resolve the matter amicably. However, despite an understanding reached between them, his wife continues to feel harassed.
Describing Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan as the “greatest joy” of his life, Uduaghan called on the Senate and the Nigerian authorities to ensure she is treated with dignity and respect. He emphasized that the matter should be left for the relevant authorities and the courts to determine, while reaffirming his unwavering support for his wife.
The allegations have sparked intense debate in political circles, with calls for an independent investigation into the claims. Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has urged both Akpoti-Uduaghan and Akpabio to submit to a formal probe to safeguard the integrity of the Senate.
