50% of 2025 budget will go to education, health sectors – Niger govt

Governor Mohammed Bago of Niger State has pledged to allocate over 50% of the 2025 budgetary allocation to Education and Health to address challenges facing the sectors.

Bago stated this while distributing items at the Teachers Professional Development Institute in Minna, saying his government will place emphasis on the sectors in 2025, considering their relevance in building the state.

The Governor noted that to demonstrate the State’s commitment to the educational subsector, 14.55% of the 2024 budget was allocated to education to enable it to build more schools, including 6 Mega Model Secondary Schools in Minna, Bida, Suleja, Bosso, and Kontagora, and to increase access to quality education.

According to him, “Also, given the importance of technical and vocational education, the sum of N1.512 billion was earmarked for the complete renovation and equipping of technical schools in Suleja, Kontagora and Jebba”

“Similarly, the sum of N1.8 billion has been earmarked as a matching grant to UBEC, and we are committed to the payment of counterpart funds to supported projects/programmes in the sector.

We also intend to expand access to education for girl-child and renovate 534 schools across the state through our partnership with the World Bank Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) programme”.
