Borno State, Nigeria – In a renewed show of strength against insurgency, Nigerian soldiers successfully repelled two coordinated terrorist attacks in Buratai (Biu LGA) and Mallam Fatori (Abadam LGA) on Thursday morning, foiling attempts by Boko Haram fighters to overrun military positions.
Army Captain Reuben Kovangiya, spokesperson for Operation Hadin Kai, confirmed that the Nigerian troops displayed “gallantry and tactical superiority,” subduing the assailants and recovering assorted arms and ammunition from the battlefield.
In Buratai, troops engaged the terrorists swiftly, leading to the recovery of several lifeless bodies of insurgents and multiple weapons. A broader clearance operation is ongoing in the general area, he said.
The more intense confrontation occurred in Mallam Fatori, where Boko Haram launched a multi-pronged attack on a military base. However, alert soldiers countered the assault and launched an aggressive pursuit of the fleeing terrorists, assisted by aerial platforms from the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai.
“Many of the terrorists fell in battle, while several others sustained gunshot wounds,” said Capt. Kovangiya.
Among the items recovered were:
- AK-47 rifles
- General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMG)
- Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPG)
- Other battlefield equipment
Captain Kovangiya emphasized that the ongoing operations are backed by both unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and manned air support, reinforcing the military’s commitment to eradicating terrorism in the region.
“The repulsion of these attacks represents a victory for the Nigerian military in its fight against insurgency,” he concluded.
Operation Hadin Kai continues to serve as a central pillar in the Federal Government’s counterterrorism efforts across Nigeria’s conflict-torn North-east.
