Zamfara PDP governorship primary: Aspirant demands nullification of election


A governorship aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Zamfara State, Ibrahim Shehu has challenged the victory of Dauda Lawal Dare in the just concluded party’s primary election as the flag bearer of the party.

Shehu challenged the party’s governorship candidate at the Federal High court in Gusau, the State capital, saying the primary election of the party was full of irregularities, praying the court to nullify the primary election and order a fresh one.

The former federal lawmaker joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the electoral committee chairman sent to the State to conduct the election, Adamu Main a Waziri and the State’s party’s chairman, Col. Bala Mande(rtd) in the suit.

Other defendants are the state’s PDP flag bearer, Dauda Lawal Dare and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The Presiding Judge of the court, Justice Bappa Aliyu, however, adjourned the case to July, 8 due to the non-presence of the defendants and their legal team.

Speaking with newsmen immediately after the court’s sitting, Counsel to the plaintiff, Barrister Ibrahim Bello Sani explained that they were in the court to challenge the election of Dauda Lawal Dare which he said was characterised by a series of irregularities and breach of Electoral laws.

“The election was full of irregularities, breach of constitutional provisions of the electoral acts 2022 amongst others. ”.

“We are challenging the election that was conducted by the committee sent to the State by PDP national headquarters to conduct the governorship primary election in Zamfara state under the chairmanship of Adamu Maina Waziri”
