Some persons travelling along Dansadau road in the Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State have been left stranded for hours as ravaging bandits blocked the only road leading the town to other parts of the state.

A victim of the incident, who preferred anonymity, told Newspot that the gunmen suspected to be bandits with sophisticated weapons, blocked the road in the early hours of Saturday, preventing motorists and commuters from going about their legitimate endeavours for hours.

“There were more than two thousand commuters, including truck drivers, that were conveying their farm products to other parts of the state from the Dansadau axis but were prevented by the bandits. We were forced to trek for several kilometres for safety,” the victim said.

Another victim, who also pleaded anonymity, said, “the bandits surrounded people in the town and the nearby villages.

“Everybody was shivering because the situation was so terrible, as I am talking to you, it is believed that these deadly bandits can enter into the town anytime and unleash terror attacks.

“Only God knows the number of casualties as everyone was on his or her heels, running for his or her safety due to the tension.”

All efforts to reach the state police command’s spokesman, SP Mohammed Shehu, for comment proved unsuccessful as he could not be reached on the phone.

Recall that a few months ago, there was palpable tension in Dansadau town of Maru Local Government Area of the state as over 19 people, suspected to be collaborators of bandits terrorizing the axis and environs, were arrested.

Newspot gathered that the suspected bandits’ collaborators were arrested by operatives of Operation Hadarin Daji in the state.
