Zamfara health officials hold crucial meeting to address drug supply challenges

Health officials in Zamfara State have held a crucial meeting to address the ongoing challenges in the state’s drug supply system.

The meeting was organised by the Commissioner for Health, Dr Nafisa Muhammed Maradun, and the secretary of the Drugs and Medical Consumables Management Agency, DMA, Sani Bello.

A statement issued by the spokesperson of the Zamfara State Ministry of Health, Suleiman Isah, said the meeting brought together key stakeholders to discuss strategies to improve the availability of essential medicines in the state.

According to the statement, a presentation highlighted the agency’s progress and identified areas requiring improvements in the state’s health sector.

“To address these challenges, several key action points were agreed upon. The pre-qualification of drugs and consumables suppliers will be conducted in the third week of January. A Sustainable Drugs Supply System, SDSS, Steering Committee meeting is scheduled for next Wednesday,” the statement disclosed.

The statement added that it was further deliberated that, to ensure the long-term sustainability of the drug supply system, a weekly monitoring system will be implemented to track progress and identify potential issues.

“By implementing these measures, the Zamfara State Ministry of Health and the DMA aim to enhance the availability of essential medicines, improve patient care, and strengthen the overall health system in the state,” the statement added.
