Yuletide: Gombe NSCDC deploys 720 officers

Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Gombe State Command has deployed no fewer than 720 personnel to provide security across the state during Christmas and New Year celebrations.

Commandant Waziri Goni stated this in a statement made available to our correspondent by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Saad Buhari, on Saturday.

He stated that it was part of the effort to increase security and curb insecurity that usually accompanied festive period.

The statement partly read, “The Command has emplaced a robust security arrangement and crime prevention strategies as directed by the Commandant General Ahmed Abubakar Audi, to ensure a crime free celebration in the state with over 720 personnel to provide security.”

Goni assured members of the public that Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps would be polite and civil but firm in ensuring security of lives and properties including Critical National Assets and Infrastructures.

He also called on the members of the public “to be security conscious and provide useful information to Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and other agencies,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, in a statement by Police Public Relations Officer ASP Mahid Abubakar, the Commissioner of Police Oqua Etim, has warned residents about use of fireworks, adding that anyone caught selling or lighting up fireworks and explosives of any kind would be made to face the full wrath of the law.

The commissioner was quoted in the statement to have said, “The ban on the sale, purchase and use of fireworks (commonly called ‘Knockouts’ or ‘Bangers’) and other explosives is still in force in the state.”

Etim also ordered Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, Heads of Tactical/Operational Units and other strategic Commanders of the Command “to deploy all the Intelligence and operational assets at their disposal and ensure that criminal flashpoints, highways, streets and other places of public interest within their area of responsibilities.”
