The Vice-Chancellor of University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode Adebowale, has disclosed that the newly-admitted students of the university have no excuse not to read and make good grades.
Adebowale made this disclosure during the matriculation ceremony for the newly-admitted students of the institution on Tuesday.
Newspot reports that a total of 3,792 students were cleared for the 2022/2023 matriculation ceremony spread across various faculties in the institution.
The students were led in the matriculation oath by the Registrar of the institution, Mr Ganiyu Saliu.
The VC, who spoke through the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, Professor Aderonke Mojisola Baiyeroju, noted that the university is a place of freedom, but the freedom is guided by rules.
He charged the students to manage their newfound freedom responsibly while in the university.
Adebowale, while speaking further, noted that the university is a place of freedom, where nobody wakes students up in the morning to attend classes.
He also warned that there are established rules guiding engagements in the University.
He urged them to find out the rules and do their utmost to keep the rules and remain on the right side of the law.
“You have no excuse not to read and make good grades. As earlier stated, the university is a place of freedom, but it is freedom guided by rules. There are established rules guiding engagements in the university.
“You are expected to find what the rules are and do your utmost best to keep the rules and remain on the right side of the law.
“For those who will run foul of the law, the Students Disciplinary Committee is the organ of the university through which they will be proceeded and sanctioned if found guilty of any misconduct.”
