*YORUBA KOYA SUGGESTS NEW MEASURES FOR POVERTY ALLEVIATION & gʻgʻgʻgʻggPALLIATIVE MEASURES FOR PBAT ADMINISTRATIONS’ RENEWED HOPE AGENDA.*
*INTRODUCTION:*
We are using this medium to wish Mr President and the generality of Nigerians a happy and prosperous year 2025.
We pray that peace, blessings and harmony shall manifest in Nigeria, this year 2025.
We hereby present this new proposal that could be used in rejigging some of the present administration’s poverty alleviation schemes.
A particular case study is the conditional cash transfer scheme that the Minister of Finance announced on the 1st of October, 2024, as having given ₦25,000 (Twenty Five Thousand Naira) to 25 Million Nigerians. That amounts to about ₦625 Billion Naira Only.
Unfortunately, like Tradermonie of the past administration, Nigerians are yet to feel the impact of the conditional cash transfer of such a huge amount in the economy of our Country.
For, much as we may blame the recent grocery stampede that took the life of 35 Children in Ibadan, 20 people in Anambra and 10 people in Abuja on the haphazard crowd handling by the organisers, we definitely cannot deny the fact that people who showed up at such palliative distribution gatherings are poor people. The poor of the poor that we may have for long neglected.
We need not over flog that but propound a way forward, whereby conditional cash transfers can become a better weapon of Poverty Alleviation than the present system of virtually throwing money to the winds. It’s a situation whereby whoever got such largesse merely kept mute.
We are not saying the Federal Government is not really putting up good effort in all this but we are merely laying before the government a situation whereby Nigerians will better feel the impact of the cash transfers and wherein they’ll get better organised into Micro Mini Medium Scale Cooperative Entrepreneurs of Five (5) Million Nigerians for a start.
We hereby give a summary outlay of the proposal below:
*MICRO MINI SMALL SCALE COOPERATIVE ENTREPRENEURS (MMSCE)*:
1.5 Million members taking the ₦25K token will be formed into Cooperative Entrepreneurial Societies covering 774 LGAs. This is about 6,000 Plus Members per each LG. That’s a huge number in each LG to carry forth the news of Federal Government efforts in alleviating poverty.
2.The ₦25K stipend per month will have ₦5K deducted for participation in the Cooperative Entrepreneurial Societies that’ll amount to ₦25 Billion per month and deductions for 3 Months translates to ₦75 Billion.
3.The ₦75 Billion Naira becomes the seed fund for empowering the 5 Million Members. There will be different vocations and markets created where products from each Ward production point get’s to all the 5 Million within the 774 LGAs.
4.Apart from beneficiaries having taken the token of ₦20K, they still have a token of ₦5K totalling ₦25K in 3 Months and with a huge pool of ₦75 Billion Naira that will be used as a revolving capital for buying, selling and training of 5 Million Micro Small Scale Entrepreneurs (MSSE).
This creates a “Renewed Hope” in people that apart from spending the ₦20K token within days, they have an investment in a huge revolving pool of ₦75 Billion Naira. Hope is key in human existence, most especially when stagnant poverty stares at people’s lives.
5.The publicity that will be generated by this huge mill of micro small scale businesses will so much radiate throughout not only the Country but made to invite Local and International Donors to contribute to the expansion of this great mill of human enterprise.
6.Politically this will be a huge political positiveness for the FG. It is a project that involves the live movement of human beings engaging in this micro small scale businesses across the 774 LGAs of the Country. It’s not a project under a paper. It involves a huge involvement of people and therefore unlike others where beneficiaries are far off and in between. This will be a long and visible human chain.
7.With 65 people dead within a week scrambling for palliative, the start of a project like this will portray the Federal Government as a listening government and the State Governments will be encouraged to key into it.
8.In fact, this may be a start off project for the different Regional Development Commissions that the FG has enacted into laws.
*CONCLUSION:*.
What really got us cracking was how exactly ₦625 Billion Naira spent by the Federal Government has not really felt immediate impact on the economy.
We sincerely believe something may have been wrong somewhere and judging from what everyone saw of the Tradermonie Scheme of the last administration, we thought it urgent and of utmost concern to bring this proposal to the attention of Mr President and all Nigerians that we can’t continue to do the same thing the same way and expect a different outcome therefrom.
And, since we believe in the sincerity of the reforms by Mr President, thought it right to bring this proposal into the open.
All in all, a culture of cooperative entrepreneurship can be kick started at an official level that can galvanise the economic recovery of the Country and the Renewed Hope for prosperity as envisioned by President Bola Tinubu.
We have with us the nitty gritty of making this project a success as it’s an area we’ve been involved in for very long.
Once again, we wish everyone a peaceful, prosperous and a happy new year enmeshed in good health.
Thanks Mr President.
