Yobe State House of Assembly has given accelerated consideration to the bill seeking for the establishment of Hisba commission in the State.
The bill, which was presented by the executive arm of government, scaled through the second reading on the floor of the House after extensive deliberations by the members on Wednesday.
Leading the debate on the bill, the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Nasiru Hassan Yusuf said the Hisba Commission when established would assist to ensure full implementation of shari’a laws passed by the House in 2000.
He also said that the Commission would ensure proper compliance of the teachings of Islamic shari’a and take necessary measures to sanitize the society from all forms of social vices and crimes.
The Leader of the House then called on members to support the bill in view of its importance to the lives of the people of the State.
In their separate contributions, members representing Gujba, Damagum, Mamudo and Damaturu II constituencies, Hon. Buba Ibrahim Kalallawa, Hon. Maina Digma Gana, Hon. Bulama Bukar and Hon. Mohammed Isa Bello were emphatic that the establishment of the commission would assist other security agencies to ensure proper enforcement of both civil, as well as shari’a laws in the State.
Presiding over the sitting, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Chiroma Buba Mashio committed the bill to the House committee on Judiciary, Justice and Religious Affairs to work on it and report back to the House within three weeks for further legislative action.
