Xavi insists he wants Memphis Depay to stay at Barcelona as Manchester United consider a move for the Dutch forward.
Depay joined Barcelona on a free transfer from Lyon in 2021 but has fallen out of favour this season, starting just two games in La Liga so far.
The 28-year-old’s contract expires this summer and United are reportedly exploring the possibility of a cut-price deal for their former player in the January transfer window.
However, Xavi has made it clear to Barcelona’s hierarchy that he wants to keep Depay for the remainder of the season.
‘I don’t want anyone to leave. I’m delighted with the squad,’ Xavi said when asked about Depay’s future at Barcelona.
‘It seems there won’t be a market for us. I’m happy with Depay.
‘His attitude is good and he will be important for us. He has the ability to make a difference. He’ll have minutes. Like all of them.’
Depay was initially signed by United in a £31 million deal from PSV in 2015 but the Netherlands international struggled to make an impact during his time at Old Trafford.
But United are reportedly exploring the possibility of re-signing Depay this month as they look to sign a new forward following Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure during the World Cup.
