Real Madrid midfielder, Toni Kroos, has picked the club’s legend, Zinedine Zidane, as the best manager to replace Didier Deschamps as France’s head coach in 2023.

Deschamps’ men lost 4-2 on penalties against Argentina in the 2022 World Cup final on Sunday in Qatar.

The World Cup final ended in a 3-3 draw as Kylian Mbappe netted a hat-trick, Lionel Messi scored twice, and Angel di Maria also scored a goal.

Deschamps’ current contract with Les Bleus runs until the end of 2024, but speculation will continue over whether the 54-year-old will step away from the job or not.

Asked if he believes Zidane is the perfect candidate to take over from Deschamps, Kroos said, as quoted by Diario AS, “I definitely think Zizou wouldn’t only be a good successor but the best possible successor.

“The big question is – What does Deschamps want? I think there is a 70/30 chance for Zizou to become the new coach.

“I think Zizou really wants to return to training a team.”
