Harry Kane could miss England’s World Cup clash against USA on Friday due to an ankle injury.

The England captain injured his right ankle in the second half of the Three Lions’ 6-2 win against Iran in their World Cup opener on Monday.

After the match, Kane was seen limping and with strapping around his ankle as he made his way out of the stadium.

According to The Athletic, Kane will now undergo a scan ahead of England’s second game in Group B to assess the extent of his injury.

But any damage means that Kane faces little time to recover for England’s second game in Group B on Friday evening.

Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson, who replaced Kane in the second half of the win over Iran, would be expected to deputise if the Tottenham striker is unavailable.

England’s final game in Group B will be against Wales on Tuesday.

When asked about Kane’s injury after England’s win on Monday, Gareth Southgate said: ‘I think Harry’s fine.

‘It looked like a bad tackle but he carried on in the game. We took him off because we felt it was a moment in the game we could do that.’
