The International Federation of Women Lawyers, FIDA in Ekiti State has restated its commitment to the protection of women’s and girl child’s rights.
The association’s chairperson, Mrs Oyinade Olatunbosun, stated this in Ado-Ekiti when she led other executive members of the group on a courtesy visit to the governor’s wife.
She explained that issues affecting women and children, most especially, the girl child, remain the concern of the association as such were attended to without collecting a dime from those that were negatively affected.
“Our officers do travel to rural areas even through public transport to seek redress for victims of rape, molestation and other forms of gender-based violence,” she said.
Mrs Olatunbosun, however, appealed to the governor’s wife to assist the association through the provision of functional vehicles and other incentives that could assist members in providing judicial services to the vulnerable, free of charge.
Responding, the wife of Ekiti State Governor, Dr Olayemi Oyebanji appreciated the female lawyers association urging members never to derail from playing
their expected role in seeking redress for the less privileged in the law court.
“When I see lawyers I am convinced beyond reasonable doubt that they are doing a great job for society. In that regard I want you to keep the fire burning so that society can be better for it,” she said.
The governor’s wife added that their request would be looked into and taken to the appropriate quarter for possible consideration.
