The Wilson and Yinka Badejo Foundation Educational Assistance Programme offers scholarships every year to brilliant indigent students who are pursuing their dream of completing their higher education.
The Wilson and Yinka Badejo Scholarship have provided over 500+ scholarships to students from poor backgrounds since the inception of this programme in 2008.
The scholarship is targeted towards academically sound students planning to attend (or already attending) a public tertiary institution and students must fulfil all eligibility requirements before their application can be considered by the scholarship board of the Wilson & Yinka Badejo Foundation.
Benefits
The Wilson and Yinka Badejo Scholarship awards a cash sum of ?70,000 to every selected candidate as support towards the cost of their education in Nigerian universities, colleges, or polytechnics.
Requirements
- Demonstrated financial need: Applicants must come from a less privileged background, as evidenced by providing a short personal statement on background.
- Academic & Personal excellence: Applicants must have a strong academic record and also possess demonstrated good character that can be readily verified.
- Enrollment status: Applicants must be enrolled or accepted to an accredited public tertiary institution (Note: Students in private tertiary institutions are not eligible).
- Previous beneficiaries: Individuals who have received at least two scholarships from our foundation in the past are not eligible to reapply to ensure fairness and equal opportunity.
- Multiple Applications: Applicants may apply for both the Legacy and the Nurturing Hearts scholarships. However, if selected, the applicant can receive only one scholarship award.
The Legacy scholarship is the existing student scholarship which the foundation has offered since 2008. It is designed to provide financial support and assistance to brilliant indigent students pursuing a higher education degree at any public tertiary institution (i.e. Universities, Polytechnics, or Colleges of Education). This is a non-renewable (one time) scholarship. Read below for more information about the legacy scholarship:
- Must be a resident of Nigeria and a student studying (or already admitted to study) a course at a public tertiary institution in Nigeria (The West African Theological Seminary and the Life Theological Seminary, Ikorodu are included as eligible institutions).
- Must meet ALL basic eligibility criteria as of the time of submitting an application.
- Must submit a complete scholarship application form online.
- If already accepted into a public tertiary institution but haven’t yet begun your course work, you must provide your JAMB admission letter. For any student who is already enrolled and undergoing a course of study in a public tertiary institution, you must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 to be considered.
- If selected as a potential awardee, you must provide a letter of recommendation from a cleric in your local assembly, Head of Department, Course adviser, or Dean of students. An interview with the scholarship board is based on the discretion of the scholarship board.
- No age requirement to apply and/or qualify to receive this scholarship.

Selection Process
Scholarship Award Timeline
- March 15th: Scholarship application portal open
- April 30th: Scholarship application deadline
- May 1st – June 13th: Application screening and Awardees selection
- June 16th – July 11th: Awardee notification and second round interviews (Note: Only selected awardees with be notified)
- July 21st: Final list of Awardees provided to Board of Trustees
- August: Awardees recognised during Annual Memorial Lecture and scholarships awarded
Requirements
The Nurturing Hearts scholarship is a new scholarship category launched this year in honour of our co-founder; Rev. Mrs. Adeyinka Badejo. It is designed to assist and encourage young females (between ages 18 – 28) who have a keen interest in children’s ministry work. This scholarship is renewable for up to a maximum of one time. Read below for more information about the Nurturing Hearts scholarship:
- Must be a resident of Nigeria and meet basic eligibility criteria (waived, where applicable).
- Must meet age and gender requirements as of the time of applying (proof will be requested).
- Must submit a complete scholarship application form online.
- Must be pursuing a degree, vocational training, and/or actively seeking professional development in an area directly related to children’s ministry.
- Must submit an essay between 500 – 750 words that describes your interest and passion for children’s ministry work and how you plan to make a positive impact in the lives of the young lives you work with (Any prior experience with children’s ministry work can be included).
- Must provide one letter of recommendation from a cleric, mentor, professor, and/or counsellor attesting to your personal character and demonstrated passion for working with children and children’s ministry.
- Must be willing to partake in an interview with the scholarship board if selected as a potential awardee
