The Delta State Government has given reasons it terminated the contract for the rehabilitation of Warri Township Stadium.
It said it was due to the apparent lack of capacity by the contractor to deliver the project.
The Commissioner for Information, Ifeanyi Osuoza, disclosed this while briefing journalists on some of the decisions reached at the State Executive Council (EXCO) meeting presided over by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
Giving reasons for the termination of the stadium project, the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads), Reuben Izeze, said the contractor breached all contractual agreements and ought to have been sued, but for the magnanimity of the governor, he was allowed to go.
He said, “The contract was supposed to have been completed and delivered to the state government in 24 months.”
“Governor Oborevwori had stated that the designs for the new stadium were currently ongoing and would be one of the best in the country when completed
“In February, 2024, Governor Oborevwori while receiving on victory and solidarity visit, members of the National Assembly from the state, led by Nicholas Mutu, at the Government House, Asaba, had promised that his administration was planning to revamp the Warri Township Stadium into a world class sports facility,” he disclosed.
