The Jigawa State Government said it has inaugurated a new state steering committee for the implementation of an Open Governance Partnership (OGP) due to its inactivity for years.
The state Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Babangida Umar Gantsa, stated this at a workshop on strengthening the OGP structure in Jigawa State, held in Dutse.
He said the aim is to review the action plan, strengthen the activities of OGP, and harmonize civil society organizations in the state.
He explained that the Open Governance Partnership (OGP) is a global activity that Nigeria has joined, and various states in the Federation have also joined, including Jigawa State.
According to him, “The governor is an architect of openness, inclusion, and transparency and we have approached him based on his commitment and desire to see that Jigawa state excel in all aspects, so he gave his commitment to go ahead and do the needful.”
He said the new OGP state steering committee has Aminu Danmalam as co-chairman as well as other state and non-state actors.
He noted that the committee will help the present administration achieve its 12-point agenda and help the state maintain its lead in terms of fiscal discipline, transparency, and accountability.
The National Coordinator of OGP, Gloria K. Ahmed, represented by Hajia Ramatu Bello from the Federal Ministry of Budget, said the Open Governance Partnership OGP is a global initiative that promotes transparency, citizen participation, and accountability in government and Nigeria joined in July 2016 as the 70th member country.
She said out of the 36 states, only 11 have yet to join the OGP and efforts are on to make sure they do.
