Manchester United and Leeds renew their fierce rivalry this evening when the two sides meet in the Premier League at Old Trafford.

Tonight’s game is the first of two encounters between the clubs this week, with the arch rivals reconvening in Yorkshire on Sunday.

Manchester United will go within five points of leaders Arsenal with a win, while Leeds will hope to claw themselves away from the relegation zone having sacked Jesse Marsch on Monday.

But fans hoping to watch the match on TV tonight will be disappointed to learn the game will not be shown live in the UK.

Here is the reason why.

Why isn’t Manchester United vs Leeds on TV?

Manchester United and Leeds were originally due to play the match on Saturday, September 17 at 3pm.

The fixture was then pushed back a day owing to Manchester United’s Europa League commitments on the Thursday.

However, the game was postponed due to the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II taking place in London on September 19.

This was down to the fact that, as a category one fixture, additional policing would be required at Old Trafford – something that would be logistically challenging due to the strain placed on the police service in the build-up to the funeral.

The original game between the pair was not selected by either Sky Sports or BT Sport for live TV coverage, with both broadcasters instead opting for different TV picks.

And despite the fact the match was rescheduled and no other Premier League matches are on TV this evening, the game cannot be shown on the box due to the original decision by Sky and BT.

The second showdown between the two clubs on Sunday, February 12 will be shown live on Sky Sports Main Event, with kick-off scheduled for 2pm at Elland Road.
