Why I moved motion for upgrade of FCA to Federal University – Oyo lawmaker

The Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Information and Communication Technology, ICT, Adedeji Dhikrullahi Olajide, has explained the rationale behind his motion for the upgrade of the Federal College of Agriculture Ibadan into a Federal University of Technology, Ibadan.

The lawmaker who represents the Ibadan North-West/ Ibadan South-West federal constituency at the National Assembly made the clarification in a statement signed by his Media Aide, Tolu Mustapha.

Our correspondent reports that the bill seeking to upgrade the College of Agriculture, Moor Plantation, Ibadan to a Federal University of Technology scaled second reading on the floor of the House of Representatives last week.

The sponsor of the bill, Olajide, explained that he introduced the bill to ensure the provision of quality education in agriculture and related fields for young school leavers across the country.

He added that if the school assumes the status of a federal university of technology, it will help boost food security and economic development in Nigeria.

The lawmaker said, “The upgrade will enhance the institution’s capacity to produce high-level manpower in agriculture, technology, and other related fields.”

“The bill, which has received widespread support from stakeholders, including the academia, farmers, and other experts in the field of agriculture, will revolutionize agriculture manpower production and training in Nigeria.

“The bill when passed into law and assented to, is expected to be a significant milestone in the development of agriculture in Nigeria, leading to improved food security and economic development”.
