Nottingham Forest are in the middle of their first season back in the Premier League for 23 years.
Steve Cooper’s side have found life difficult in the top flight of English football and are currently locked in a frantic battle to avoid returning to the Championship.
And across the first half of the season, the club have surprised fans by not having a sponsor on the front of their shirts, making them the only side in the Premier League not to do so.
But why exactly do Forest have no sponsorship on their kits this year?
Here is the reason for the plain look on their famous red shirts.
Why don’t Nottingham Forest have a shirt sponsor on the front of their shirts?
Forest are yet to strike a deal to replace last season’s sponsor BOXT, whose contract with the Midland side expired at the end of last season.
The UK heating company had been the club’s main sponsors since former sponsor Football Index went into administration in March 2021.
BOXT had been eager to continue to sponsor the two-time European champions, but they announced ahead of the start of the season that both parties were unable to strike a deal.
The company said in a statement: ‘We’ve enjoyed every minute of the journey that took Forest back to where they deserve to be.
‘We are incredibly disappointed not to be working together for the upcoming season. We had submitted a multi-million-pound offer, but unfortunately the club want to go in a different direction for their front of shirt sponsorship.
‘We would like to wish them and their fans the very best for their first season back in the Premier League.’
Since the split, BOXT have become the official sleeve sponsor of Everton.
According to Sport Business, Forest have been holding out for a £10m-a-season sponsorship deal after rejecting several offers that fell below their valuation.
Although unusual, this is not the first time that a Premier League team has featured without a sponsor on the front of their shirts.
Sheffield Wednesday started the 1992/93 season without one, whilst Wimbledon also went the entirety of that season with no sponsor on their kit.
