The Confederation of African Football (CAF) president, Patrice Motsepe has explained why it took the body time before announcing dates for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations and 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
CAF announced dates for both competitions at its executive committee meeting on Friday.
The 2025 AFCON finals will run from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026, in Morocco.
Morocco will also host the delayed 2025 WAFCON finals which will be staged from from July 5 to July 26 2025.
“I am also impressed by the enormous growth of Women’s Football in Africa and I am expecting the CAF WAFCON Morocco 2024 to be immensely successful,” Motsepe was quoted by CAFonline.
“The announcement of the dates of the CAF AFCON Morocco 2025 took much longer than expected, as there were complex and at times challenging discussions with various interested parties, in the light of the extensive International and Domestic Match Calendars.
“CAF is committed to protecting and advancing the interests of African players, playing in football clubs in Europe and worldwide.”
