Several teams face nerve-wracking do or die matches hoping to book their spot in the knock-out stages – but a number of nations can put their feet up safe in the knowledge they have already qualified.
Here is a look at the seven teams who have qualified for the round of 16 at Qatar 2022, with nine spots still up for grabs over the next few days.
Who has qualified for the knock-out stage?
Group A
The Netherlands started the World Cup well with a respectable four points from tricky assignments with Senegal and Ecuador, and they sealed the deal against already-eliminated Qatar in the final game to confirm themselves as group winners.
Senegal started the final matchday of Group A in third place behind Ecuador, but they leapfrogged the South Americans with a 2-1 victory to secure the runners-up spot.
Group B
England finished first in a potentially awkward-looking Group B, with their seven points arriving courtesy of dominant wins against Iran and Wales and a lacklustre draw with the impressive Americans.
USA join the Three Lions in the next round after beating Iran 1-0 in a winner-takes-all showdown on matchday three.
Group D
France became the first team to book their place in the round of 16 after beating Australia 4-1 in their opening match, which was followed up with a 2-1 victory over Denmark courtesy of a brace from Kylian Mbappe.
Group G
Brazil have eased into the next round with a perfect six points from six picked up from matches against Serbia and Switzerland.
Group H
Portugal are safely through to the last 16 after navigating their way to six points from six with victories over Ghana and Uruguay.
