Messi began his youth career in 1992 at local side Grandoli when he was just five years old, where he stayed until 1995.
Messi then moved to top division side Newell’s Old Boys aged eight years old, spending five years in the club’s youth system.
The Rosario native relocated to Spain in 2000 to continue his development at Barcelona’s famous La Masia academy.
He made his debut in the Barcelona first team in 2004, spending the baulk of his career at the Spanish giants making 520 appearances in total.
The Argentine moved to PSG as a free agent in 2021 after Barcelona ran into financial difficulty and were unable to offer him a new contract.
Messi made his debut for Argentina in 2005, and his 172 appearances since then have seen him win the Copa America in 2021 to go with this year’s World Cup.

In total, Messi has scored 793 goals in his career across all competitions.
The majority, 672, came whilst he was playing at Barcelona, whilst he has notched 23 since moving to the French capital.
Messi has managed 98 goals for Argentina, making him the all-time top goalscorer in the history of the national team.
Only Cristiano Ronaldo (817) and Josef Bican (805) have scored more goals than Messi across all competitions in the history of football.
