The iconic steeplechase is contested over 30 fences and four and a half grueling miles at Aintree, with the winner walking away with a cheque for £561,000.
As well as the die-hard horse racing fans, the National also attracts casual viewers around the country who like to have a flutter on the race – or to just simply catch the dramatic action unfold.
Here is everything you need to know about the Grand National 2023.
When is the Grand National 2023?
This year’s Grand National will take place on Saturday, April 15.
As ever, the venue will be the Aintree Racecourse, which is situated around six miles from Liverpool.
The race is part of the three-day Aintree Grand National Festival, with races on Thursday, April 13 and Friday, April 14.
The famous racecourse has hosted every edition of the Grand National since its inauguration in 1839.
The Jockey Club, which owns Aintree, has dropped the dress code for this year’s Festival in an attempt to make racing more accessible.
What time does the race start?
The Grand National will start at the traditional tea-time slot of 5.15pm.
ITV will show the Grand National live on TV in the UK along with the other six races taking place that day.
Which horses are taking part?
The final 40-horse line-up has not yet been announced.
A longlist of 85 potential entries will be whittled down to 40 horses closer to the time.
How to get Grand National tickets
Tickets for some areas of Aintree have now sold out.
However, there are still tickets available for Grand National day, including kids, adults and hospitality packages.
