England and Australia are readying themselves for a mouth-watering Women’s World Cup semi-final in Sydney later today.

The tournament is the latest frontier to play host to a meeting between these two great sporting rivals with a place in the World Cup final awaiting the winner.

The Lionesses booked their place in the last four with a 2-1 comeback victory over Colombia at the weekend.

The co-hosts, meanwhile, held their nerve in a mammoth penalty shootout with France, eventually prevailing 7-6 following a 0-0 draw after extra-time.

Sarina Wiegman’s side can expect nothing short of fervent reception at the national stadium, with thousands of Australians there to cheer on the Matildas in arguably the biggest game in Australian football history.

Here is your full brief ahead of England vs Australia, including the UK start time and the all-important TV channel.

Stadium Australia, which hosted the Lionesses’ quarter-final win on Saturday, will once again be the venue for the European champions.

The winner will play Spain, who beat Sweden 2-1 in the first semi-final, in the final on Sunday.

How to watch on TV

England vs Australia will be shown live on BBC One, with coverage getting underway from 10am.

Viewers will also be able to catch the game on live stream via the BBC Sport website and BBC iPlayer.

Team news

There are no fresh injury concerns for Wiegman following on from Saturday’s triumph.

Ella Toone, who came in for the suspended Lauren James against the Colombians, is likely to retain her place in the starting XI.

James, who was handed a two match ban by FIFA for her stamp on Nigeria’s Michelle Alozie in the Round of 16, will once again be absent in Sydney.

The Chelsea striker will be able to play in either the World Cup final or Sunday or the third-place play-off game on Saturday.

Australian sensation Sam Kerr, meanwhile, will be desperate to start her first game of the tournament having come on during the quarter-final clash with France.

The Chelsea star picked up a calf injury in training on the eve of the tournament which has limited her game time so far at her home World Cup.

Head-to-head record

England currently lead the head-to-head record 2-1, whilst the sides have also played out one draw.

The Matildas, however, are the only team to have beaten England since Wiegman took charge in September 2021 – a 2-0 friendly defeat at Brentford back in April.
