The All Progressives Congress APC and its President- Elect Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu during electioneering campaign ,made numerous promises to the Nigerian people and by 29 May 2023 they are waiting eagerly for their implementation.
According to the BBC, Tinubu and the APC outlined their primary goals as enhancing exports and decreasing dependence on imports. They have committed to reducing youth unemployment by 50 percent in a span of four years and take measures to safeguard the autonomy of the judiciary.
In terms of the economy, they have pledged to provide tax incentives to support the manufacturing sector and implement price controls on essential commodities to effectively manage inflation. Tinubu and the APC have also promised to achieve a 20 percent increase in gas production.
Regarding employment, they pledged to generate a million fresh ICT employment opportunities within two years, while also addressing the issue of youth unemployment by urging commercial banks to provide affordable loans to enterprises led by young individuals.
They also committed to assisting two million entrepreneurs and professionals by mentoring young individuals to secure employment or establish their businesses.
The APC and Tinubu have pledged to implement mandatory health insurance to provide coverage for at least 40 percent of the population in the health sector within two years.
Additionally, they have promised to enhance the quantity and expertise of healthcare personnel, with a specific focus on primary care, and support the establishment of mobile clinics to ensure that all individuals have access to nearby primary health facilities.
They are also committed to promoting the domestic production of essential medicines and vaccines. In regards to security, they have pledged to enhance the salaries and welfare of security personnel, as well as establish special allowances for those who have been injured or fallen in service.
Additionally, they have committed to modernizing the weaponry, communication, and transportation systems of military units and to bolstering recruitment, training, and equipment for military, police, paramilitary, and intelligence personnel. Furthermore, they have vowed to eradicate attacks on critical national infrastructure.
In the realm of education, their pledge entails the creation of fresh accreditation benchmarks for educational institutions at all levels, spanning from primary to tertiary education, and the implementation of a pilot program for student loans. Additionally, they aim to institute a dedicated education fund that will provide interest-free loans.
When it comes to addressing corruption, they pledge to implement measures to limit the salaries of elected officials and public servants. They also vow to minimize financial leakages from government funds.
APC and Tinubu further commit to recognizing and rewarding diligent efforts while actively eliminating fraudulent practices such as ghost workers and projects. Additionally, they pledge to streamline the civil service bureaucracy and reduce wasteful spending.
