The University of Abuja has refuted claims of bias and irregularities in the ongoing selection process for the Vice-Chancellor.

It was gathered that on Tuesday, a disturbance, purported to be a protest of professors, broke out at the UniAbuja campus.

At the centre of the protest were moves by the university management to choose members of the VC selection committee board.

The governing council was allegedly attempting to make Maikudi the substantive Vice-Chancellor, despite her purported ineligibility under advertised criteria.

The university, in a statement on Wednesday, dismissed claims that Aisha Sani Maikudi, the acting VC, is being unfairly favoured.

The Acting Director of Information and University Relations, Habib Yakoob,
said Maikudi’s qualifications show her accomplishments during her tenure.

The university reiterated its commitment to a transparent and merit-based selection process conducted under relevant regulations.

The institution also addressed allegations of protests and harassment of journalists, a situation it described as a misunderstanding.

It stated that there was no coercion or confrontation during the non-existent senate meeting.

The university emphasised its commitment to fostering positive relationships with the media and ensuring the safety and security of all individuals on campus.

It urged all stakeholders to allow the selection process to proceed without interference or politicisation.
