The Chairman, Gateway Zone Community Development Association, Ayo Fashugba, on Tuesday, said the CDA was not aware of the resolution by the Lagos State House of Assembly that the estate should be used as the route to access a wetland where suspected ‘omo oniles’ planned for housing development in the state.

Fasugba made the statement in reaction to the news on the recommendations of an 11-man LSHA’s ad hoc committee on the alleged conduct of executives of the estate located in the Magodo GRA Phase 1 area of the state.

In the recommendations, a copy of which was sighted by our correspondent, LSHA was said to have mandated that the Chairman, Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area to ensure that the Gateway Zone was used as the route to access the wetland.

The recommendations read in part, “The Chairman, Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area, should ensure that the access, through the Gateway Zone 5, Magodo GRA road is granted to Ojoko family/WAVL properties on mutual agreement with the CDA that further road maintenance/ development cost will be incurred by both parties.”

Reacting to the development, Fashugba said the estate, the concerned family and the state government had a pending court case bordering on using the estate as an access route to the wetland, among other issues, adding that the LSHA had yet to officially communicate to the executives of the estate.

He said, “We are not aware of the resolution of the house; we never got any official information from the Lagos State House of Assembly. It is quite interesting that the ‘omo oniles’ have been bragging that they have a copy of the resolution since last year and we did not know anything.”

“People just started calling me that they heard on the radio that the Gateway Zone disobeyed the LSHA and that we did not allow ‘omo oniles’ to access the gorge through our estate. This is strange to us as the LSHA is coming out of the blues with the resolution and we were not even in the loop.

“More importantly, we have been in court with the ‘omo oniles’ since October last year. So, the case is in court and the LSHA is passing a resolution asking that the executives of our estate be sanctioned and cautioned, and also asking that the NTDA be sanctioned. This is just strange to us.”

Fasugba said it was surprising that the LSHA was adjudicating on land matters despite relevant agencies existing to saddle such affairs in the state.

“We have engaged the relevant ministries including the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Lands, Ministry of Environment, and the ‘omo oniles’ are not even talking to these ministries.

“The ‘omo oniles’ are claiming that the access to the wetland is through our estate and we have refused that and the LSHA resolved that we are disobeying them for refusing access to the ‘omo oniles’ through our estate,” Fasugba said.
