Manchester United hero Wayne Rooney feels Liverpool star Mohamed Salah does not get the credit he deserves.
Salah has one again been in fine form this season as he looks to help the Reds land a second Premier League title under manager Jurgen Klopp.
Liverpool are locked in a title race with Arsenal and Manchester City, facing Rooney’s old club United – their biggest rivals – at Old Trafford this weekend.
Salah tasted Premier League glory with Liverpool in 2020 and has also won the Champions League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, Club World Cup and Super Cup.
There are rumours that the Egypt international could be heading to the Saudi Pro League at the end of the season when Klopp leaves and Rooney – a Premier League legend himself – feels his fellow top-flight great deserves more respect.
‘He carries the ball up the pitch, he makes great runs in behind, he scores goals and he creates goals,’ Rooney told Premier League Productions about Salah.
‘That’s what he’s there to do. He’s the main threat. They’ve had No.9s… Roberto Firmino, Darwin Nunez. But he is the one that keeps scoring the goals.
‘I don’t think he gets the credit he deserves. Look at Phil Foden in a similar role.
‘He’s got another eight, nine or 10 years to get to the numbers Mohamed Salah is hitting. I’d like to see him get more credit.’
Salah has won the Premier League Golden Boot on three occasions and was crowned Premier League Player of the Season in the 2017-18 campaign.
