*Warning: Contains spoilers for Vigil episode 6*

Hit drama Vigil came to a close on BBC One on Sunday, with the Suranne Jones-led drama reaching its finale.

The six-part drama is set aboard nuclear sub HMS Vigil, following Suranne’s DCI Amy Silva as she attempted to solve the murder of whistleblower Craig Burke (Martin Compston).

As fans discovered, it was Russian agents who orchestrated the killing, with the boat’s chef Jackie Hamilton poisoning him with a lethal nerve agent in order to cut a deal to have her son removed from prison.

Spy Matthew Doward then came on board, with the aim of forcing an evacuation and ultimately leading to nuclear escalation in Scotland.

The series seemed to wrap things up nicely – but will there be another series? Here’s everything we know so far.

Nothing has been confirmed but star Anjli Mohindra, who plays medical officer Tiffany Docherty, teased that ‘there’s been conversations’ about a new series.

She told RadioTimes.com: ‘I think there’s stuff on the horizon. But nothing confirmed just yet.’

Before the drama launched, creator and writer Tom teased the future of the show, implying that any subsequent tales may not take place on a submarine, as ‘we have probably told as many of the stories as we would wish to tell on a submarine’.

Tom explained that he would ‘love to burrow’ into some of the characters in the show, adding: ‘So if there’s a will to do it from everyone else then certainly I would be up for it.’

The Sun also reports that there is a chance of Vigil returning for more episodes.

An insider said: ‘The Beeb knew they had a hit on their hands. So they’ve been in discussion for some time with its creators, World Productions, about a potential follow-up. Now those plans are likely to progress at speed, with a view to Vigil II being commissioned.’

They added: ‘It remains to be seen whether Suranne will return, as Vigil’s makers aren’t afraid to kill off a central character.’

For now at least, we’ll have to wait for more news on a potential second series.

Vigil is available to stream on BBC One.
