Victor Lindelof believes that his appointment as Sweden captain will also improve his leadership at Manchester United.

Lindelof was an integral figure in the United back four during the last two seasons, but has found game time harder to come by so far this term following the signing of Raphael Varane from Real Madrid.

The 27-year-old was been given the captaincy by his national team in August, taking over from skipper Andreas Granqvist, who replaced former United star Zlatan Ibrahimovic in 2020.

And the former Benfica centre-back has revealed his honour at being given the armband, before explaining how it will indirectly help the Red Devils.

‘Yeah I’m very, very proud to be captain of my country,’ he said.

‘It’s a huge honour for me to get the opportunity to be captain of Sweden. It’s great responsibility, but something that I’m very happy with.

‘I don’t have a problem with that responsibility, either. I’m just trying to do my best and, hopefully, I can be a good captain for my country.’

“Yeah, I would say so [it will help United]. The way I am as a captain, I think I’m quite calm. I take responsibility and I try to be a leader. I’ve gained some experience over my career, so far, and I just try to help out and be a leader on the pitch and off it, as well.’

With Varane a doubt for United’s Premier League match against Liverpool on Sunday through injury, Lindelof could be given another opportunity to show his qualities in what is a crucial match.
