Liverpool are still yet to agree a transfer fee with Valencia for goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, according to reports.

Arne Slot has not brought in any new players since taking over from Jurgen Klopp and suffered a major blow last week when Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi turned down a move to Anfield.

The Reds have also been trying to seal a creative deal to sign Mamardashvili who has been targeted to replace Alisson when he eventually vacates the number one spot.

It’s understood the 23-year-old would immediately head out on loan for one or two seasons if he were to join before taking over from the Brazilian stalwart.

Bournemouth have been identified as a potential destination for Mamardashvili to get up to speed with top flight English football.

Personal terms have reportedly been agreed with the Georgia international but Valencia have now rejected at least three bids from Liverpool.

The La Liga side are holding out for around £34million for their first choice goalkeeper but Liverpool are yet to match that figure, according to Marca.

Negotiations have been ongoing for more than 10 days and Liverpool are said to be ‘close’ to the fee being demanded.

But Valencia owner Peter Lim has stood firm on the price and if the Merseyside club don’t increase their offer, the deal could collapse altogether.

Mamardashvili, who starred at Euro 2024, was between the sticks for Valencia’s opening-day 2-1 loss at home to Barcelona.

He will remain in the team unless an agreement can be reached, local reports suggest.

With less than two weeks of the transfer window remaining, Liverpool are running out of time to get any deals over the line.

Slot got off to the perfect start at the weekend as Liverpool beat Ipswich 2-0 at Portman Road.

When asked about any incomings before the game, he said: ‘I said many times already that I think our squad is really strong and it is not so easy to find players that can help us or can even strengthen the squad.’

Liverpool take on Brentford at Anfield on Sunday in their final game before the transfer window closes at 11pm on August 30.
