Following the alleged abduction of Uzodinma’s former Commissioner for foreign affairs, Fabian Ihekweme by unidentified gunmen on November 27 as informed by his family, the Imo State Police Command has described the alleged abduction as a mere rumour maintaining that he was rather arrested by the detectives of Imo State Police command.
A press release from the desk of the Command’s Public relations officer, ASP, Henry Okoye described the report as false and misleading.
ASP Okoye, informed that Ihekweme was not abducted, but was lawfully arrested on November 27, 2024 by detectives of the State Police Command, following a formal petition by the Imo Democratic Alliance (IDA) who accused him of seditious and inflammatory publications which the petition stated was aimed at inciting civil unrest in the State.
He maintained that in line with due process, a duly signed warrant of arrest was obtained before his detention.
“We urge the public to disregard the false narrative circulating on social media, and call on media practitioners to verify their sources before publishing, as misinformation undermines public trust.” he stated.
The command’s spokesperson further pointed out that the State Police Command remains committed to upholding the rule of law without external influence and will provide timely updates as necessary.
It was gathered by our correspondent that the wife of the embattled former commissioner, alleged that masked men besieged their residence and whisked away her husband without no means of identification which forced her to raise the alarm.
It was also gathered that Ihekweme, before now was a strong ally of the Governor until his recent articles which seemed to suggest the opposite.
