UNILAG alumni honour PUNCH Metro editor, Momoh, others

The University of Lagos Mass Communication Alumni Association has honoured some members who distinguished themselves in 2022.

The alumni group honoured the Editor of PUNCH’s Metro Desk, Samson Folarin; Chairman of Channels Television, John Momoh, and some other members of the association.

Folarin was honoured as the print journalist of the year, while Momoh was honoured with the first UMCAA’s statue of greatness.

The members honoured at the Alumni Dinner and Awards held recently, were described as worthy ambassadors of the UMCAA.

The event brought together former students and lecturers of the department, a platform for a reunion, bonding, and networking.

Some alumni who had served the association were also honoured for exemplary service.

Emmanuel Kayode emerged as the advertising professional of the year, while Olubukola Munonye as Public Relations Professional of the year.

Others honoured were Regina Chris-Ogbodo as broadcast journalist of the year; Dr. Olabisi Deji-Folutile as online media professional of the year; Dr. Kehinde Oyesomi as academia of the year; Adeyinka Adeosun as UMCAAite of the year, and class of 1984 as the most participatory set of the year.

Some veterans who contributed to the department’s development were also recognised and honoured with awards presented to them. These were: Bukky Bandele, Mallam Abdul Okwechime, Fred Ohwahwa, Ayotunde Awobiyi and Oyeboade Akinola.

Meanwhile, a new set of executive was sworn-in as they took their oath of office.

In his acceptance speech, the new UMCAA President, Adewale Williams, stated that his team was poised to consolidate on the achievements of the outgone executive and run an administration of “inclusivity”.

Williams assured that the new executive would move the association and their alma mater forward by creating platforms that would make them the cynosure of all eyes.
