Situations  at University  College Hospital Ibadan are getting worse by the day due to power outage

Newspot can confirm that for the past few days the hospital is engulfed in darkness and departments handling emergency cases are not functioning

Some families that have patients in the hospital are planning for force discharge to private hospitals.

To worsen the situation water has ceased to flow and the toilets remained unflushed while no water to wash the hands.

The newspot crew at the hospital on Tuesday 12 November recorded that the morale of the workforce was at the lowest level.

Many who could not withstand the heat stayed outside for fresh air.

It will be recalled that on Monday 11 November 2024  inpatients and out patients carried out violent protests smashing tables and chairs.

The protesters told our crew that they were mobilizing for a bigger one before the weekend if the management failed to address the situation squarely.

One Mr Olalere said: ” I have never seen this kind of deplorable situation at UCH. Everything seems to have gone haywire. It looks as if we have no management in place.

” Visit the toilets, faeces all over the place.  Operating theaters are not functioning optimally. Doctors are not seen in the consulting room. My fear is there may be breakout of epidemic.

” Am calling on the management to do something urgently else UCH will become ghost hospital. ”

Newspot reporters  were at the Chief  Medical Director Professor  Jesse Abiodun Otegbayo’s office but were told he was having a crucial meeting

However one of the hospital’s top management team who wished to remain anonymous said ” The management is addressing the situation.  Things were not as bad as being projected by some people.  It got worse due to frequent collapse of the National grid. Our hospital is on Band A which provide us with steady supply of electricity. We are looking at getting reliable backup in few hours.”
