Former Manchester United midfielder Kleberson has backed his countrymen Casemiro and Antony to still have a bright future under Ruben Amorim despite being labelled ‘two of the worst signings’ in the club’s history.
Amorim will officially take the reins at Old Trafford on 11 November with the futures of a number of current United stars expected to come under further scrutiny with the Brazilian duo among them.
Antony managed just one minute of Premier League football under Erik ten Hag this season with Casemiro’s decline a worry in midfield.
In assessing Ten Hag’s legacy at the club, former United captain Gary Neville insisted the Dutchman ‘oversaw two of the worst transfers Manchester United have made’ in Casemiro and Antony.
Casemiro was strongly linked with a move to Saudi Arabia earlier this year but former Brazil international Kleberson, who spent two years at Old Trafford under Sir Alex Ferguson, believes the former Real Madrid star has plenty more to offer.
‘Casemiro is the one player who doesn’t shy away from the pressure; he can handle the pressure,’ Kleberson told Metro.co.uk, via BitCasino.
‘People can get upset with him or the media and the news can try and punch him down, but he’s always the same guy and will always try to play the way that he can play. You saw him score two goals [against Leicester City], the second goal that he scored he was the one that won the header and he still had the desire to get the next ball.
‘I think things are getting better for him. Every time a season is done, you hear that Casemiro has to leave United, that he has done, has to go to Saudi Arabia or back to Brazil, but he can still play. He can still offer more to United.’
Antony has entered his third season since his £85million move from Ajax but Kleberson also believes there is still hope for the winger, playing under a new manager in a new system.
‘I know Antony has struggled to get the best out of himself at United, it has been very up and down, but I believe that with a new manager a lot of things can change for players, and a new manager could give him great confidence,’ Kleberson said.
‘He’s a really good player, but just struggled to get to his best on the field. I believe that the right manager can get the best out of him, and I believe that he can have a good future at United.
‘It’s not easy, and I had the same feeling at United after injuries that was always behind other players, and the third year I decided to move to Turkey but it was a mistake on my part due to the competition in the club. In the third year, anything can happen.’
