Curtis Jones and Jarell Quansah will miss out on selection for Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2024 England squad, along with James Maddison.
The uncapped Liverpool duo had both been included in the Three Lions’ 33-man preliminary squad announced last month, though had always appeared outsiders for the party set to travel to Germany later this month.
It comes after it emerged that Tottenham attacking midfielder James Maddison, capped seven times by Southgate, would be omitted from the plane for this summer’s eagerly anticipated tournament.
Midfielder Jones, 23, and centre-back Quansah, 21, are both yet to feature for England at senior level and received their first call-ups when Southgate named his provisional squad for the European Championships on May 21.
Jones made 36 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool last term, scoring five times, while Quansah enjoyed an impressive breakout season at the heart of Jurgen Klopp’s defence, featuring in 33 games at the back.
It’s been a meteoric rise for Quansah over the last 12 months, with the defender spending the second half of the 2022/23 campaign on loan with League One outfit Bristol Rovers before making his Premier League debut for Liverpool against Newcastle last August.
England beat Bosnia and Herzegovina 3-0 in their first of two warm-up matches for Euro 2024 last weekend and take on Iceland on Friday – the day that nations must submit their final squads for Euro 2024.
