Truckers operating at the nation’s maritime domain have written an open letter to the Lagos state, Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on the need to urgently intervene to checkmate the activities of miscreants extorting truckers in the state.
The group under the aegis of Amalgamation, an umbrella body of maritime trucking associations that major on movement of both export and import cargoes, said that the appeal became very necessary following the recent ghastly truck accident on 7th of November 2022, close to Trade Fair bridge along the Lagos Badagry expressway where one police inspector and two others lost their lives
The letter was signed by Mr Ridwan Bello, on behalf of the group was titled, ‘Urgent plea to save our soul and business from the activities of miscreants who are extorting/assaulting our drivers, damaging trucks and causing ghastly road accidents that are claiming lives & properties in Lagos metropolis.’
The group explained that the letter was a passionate appeal for the urgent intervention of the State Government to checkmate the multiple extortion, unimaginable terror and destructions that hoodlums are inflicting on us truckers on a daily basis in Lagos State.
It explained that the Monday incident was one out of many in the catalogue of extortion, violence, assault, injury, damage to truck and death that are being cause by these marauding hoodlums.
The letter read in part, “Urgent plea to save our soul and business from the activities of miscreants who are extorting / assaulting our drivers, damaging trucks and causing ghastly road accidents that are claiming lives and properties in Lagos metropolis. Amalgamation is an umbrella body of maritime trucking associations whose major activity focuses on the movement of import and export goods in and out of the ports in Lagos.
“On the above subject matter, we write to passionately appeal for your urgent intervention to checkmate the multiple extortion, unimaginable terror and destructions that hoodlums are inflicting on we truckers on a daily basis in Lagos State.”
