A shadow of unease looms over Nigeria on all fronts. From the insurgency in the North to the conflicts in the Middle Belt and the secessionist agitations in the Southeast, the nation is in turmoil. The invasion and the battle over the interpretation and misinterpretation of court pronouncements in the Southwest and South-South only add to the complexity. Power struggles across the country and simmering tensions threaten to boil over. The cries of poverty and hunger from the majority of citizens seem to have fallen on deaf ears, while political maneuvering and power grabs ahead of the 2027 elections take center stage.
This inaction from the Nigerian political class is a betrayal of public trust. Instead of decisive leadership, we are met with a deafening silence that speaks volumes about the misplaced priorities of those in power. While communities are torn apart by violence and citizens lose hope, the political class entrusted with the nation’s future appears more focused on personal gain and political survival. Given the harrowing challenges facing citizens today, making the rat race for the 2027 elections the forefront of the national agenda is nothing short of wicked and satanic. This is certainly not the time for self-serving politics.
The political class must recognize that true power lies in service and sacrifice. The complexities of our challenges demand a unified front rather than a house turned upside down by selfish political pursuits. Embracing a dialectical process is crucial—fostering open and honest dialogue that transcends partisan lines. Invasions and counter-invasions are senseless; it is through the clash of ideas and the respectful exchange of opposing viewpoints that a unified vision for Nigeria can emerge.
We need leaders who will step outside the echo chambers of their own parties and engage in meaningful discourse with those across the aisle. Leaders who will prioritize national unity over personal ambition, understanding that a call to leadership is fundamentally a call to service.
The path forward is clear. The political class must choose unity over division, dialogue over silence, and action over apathy. The time for the dialectical process is now. The future of Nigeria depends on it. Let us pray for our judiciary.
