The Kwara State Government has urged citizens to embrace tourism as a means to foster peace and further acquire knowledge to pave the way for a brighter future
and boost the internally generated revenue of the state.
State Commissioner for Communications, Bolanle Olukoju, made this call in Ilorin Saturday at a rally organized by the Ministry in commemoration of the United Nations World Tourism Day, which ended at the premises of the ministry’s headquarters.
The Commissioner who was represented at the event by her Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Yahaya Muhammed, appealed to members of the public, to use tourism as a tool, to bring people of diverse cultures and religions together, to promote prosperity, peace, development, friendship, tolerance, and corporate unity, among other development goals.
According to the theme of this year’s tourism day; ‘Tourism and Peace,’ Olukoju emphasized that; “Tourism plays a significant role in building peace by facilitating movement of the people, to explore new places, culture and ideas. This promotes better understanding, authentic experiences, improved connectivity and innovation, which also adds to our knowledge of the past, present and as well offers insights into the future.”
On how tourism will enhance the state’s Internally generated revenue, IGR, Olukoju, stressed that, “Kwara State Government is committed to developing other tourist attractions, through public-private partnerships that will further increase the state’s internally generated revenue.”
In her remarks, the State Director of Culture and Tourism, Silifat Tunrayo Aliyu, commended the present administration for its unwavering support for the tourism sector.
