Tottenham outcast Serge Aurier would consider a move to Arsenal after terminating his Spurs contract earlier this week.

The Ivory Coast international was deemed surplus to requirements by Nuno Espirito Santo and departed the north London club on deadline day after he came to a mutual agreement with his now former club.

According to Sky Sports, Aurier’s preference is to remain in England and would have few concerns about crossing the north London divide, were Arsenal to offer him a deal in a bid to solve their issues at right-back.

With Hector Bellerin having departed for Real Betis on loan, Mikel Arteta is without a specialist in that position, despite the addition of Japan international Takahiro Tomiyasu on Tuesday.

Cedric Soares, Calum Chambers and Nuno Tavares have all operated at right-back so far this season, but none look capable of making that position their own, and while Tomiyasu is also capable of playing there, he prefers to operate as a right-sided centre-half in a back three.

Explaining the decision to sign the versatile 22-year-old, Arteta told Arsenal’s official website: ‘We followed him for a while.

‘We needed a full back who could be very versatile, can play as a centre back, can play in a back three and Tomi has this capacity.

‘He is 22 years old but he has some really good experience in Serie A and at international level and with the qualities we are looking for.’

On the young profile of Arsenal’s signings, Arteta continued: ‘Yes, different experiences, some had experience in the league, some abroad, and some have been coached in other ways, but they are players we have followed for a long time that we knew could fit in the model we are trying to implement at the club. So we are pleased.’
