After a proposed fight between the two fell through twice within the last 12 months, YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul issued a fresh challenge to Fury this week.
The 25-year-old offered to travel to London or Manchester to fight the former Love Island star at the start of the year, warning the Briton’s promoter Frank Warren he has seven days to get a contract over.
But in an indication that more drawn-out negotiations could be on the way, Fury has urged his rival to ‘stop hiding behind old terms’.
‘Dear Jake Paul, I am glad to see you have agreed to the location and time, now you can tell your team to get round the table and negotiate properly instead of trying to hide behind the old terms/agreements put in place two years ago,’ Fury wrote on Twitter.
‘I’m ready and waiting to get this over the line.’
Fury was forced to pull out of a December showdown last year after suffering a rib injury in training with the fight agreed again in June following more drawn-out negotiations.
While the fight was confirmed to take place in August in new York’s famed Madison Square Garden, it was called off again after Fury and his team were stopped from boarding a US-bound plane at Heathrow.
Paul is coming off the back of a decision win over UFC legend Anderson Silva, a victory which extended his boxing record to 6-0.
Fury meanwhile fought on the Floyd Mayweather vs Deji undercard in Dubai last weekend, beating late-stand in Rolly Lambert in an exhibition bout.
After that win, John Fury, father of Tommy and heavyweight champion Tyson, claimed a deal has been verbally agreed with Paul’s manager for a fight against his son.
‘I have locked him down, backed him in a corner and check-mated him, he has agreed to a February bout,’ Fury Snr said, having ripped off his shirt and confronted Paul following Tommy’s win last Sunday.
‘He shook my hand, he gave me his word of honour, his manager, and said it’s happening in February.
‘I said if you back out you will never live it down in your life and you can’t break a man’s handshake. Contracts mean nothing but a handshake does. His manager has given his word, he will fight in February’.
