⁰The inauguration of President-elect Bola Tinubu and his deputy, Kashim Shettima,is a done deal as Nigeria’s government has put everything in place and will proceed as scheduled on May 29, despite ongoing legal challenges and protests.
This announcement was made by Boss Mustapha, the Chairman of the Presidential Transition Committee and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, during a World Press Conference aimed at informing Nigerians and the international community about the planned activities for the 2023 Presidential Inauguration.
Mustapha emphasized the historical significance of the upcoming event for Nigeria and Africa, highlighting the democratic values and lessons in nationhood it represents. He assured that the inauguration will take place in accordance with the country’s Constitution and Electoral Act, regardless of the ongoing litigation.
As part of the transition process, President Muhammadu Buhari will confer the National Honours of GCFR and GCON on Tinubu and Shettima on May 25.
Mustapha stated that the President has instructed relevant government institutions to cooperate with and support the transition process by engaging with the President-Elect’s team.
The Presidential Transition Committee has established three main committees: the Inauguration Committee chaired by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Transition Documents Committee chaired by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, and the Security, Facilities, and Intelligence Committee chaired by the National Security Adviser.
Mustapha unveiled the schedule of activities for the 2023 Presidential inauguration, which will be broadcast live on major stations and streamed on social media platforms. He emphasized that the presence of both local and international media at the press conference demonstrates the desire of Nigerians and the global community to support the democratic transition of power.
