President Bola Tinubu has approved the immediate replacement of the representatives of Ondo and Cross River states on the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission. While Victor Akinjo was replaced by Otito Atikase, Oku Okang of Cross River was replaced with Otuk Duke.

“Furthermore, the immediate past Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer of the NDDC, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, is reappointed to a second term and will remain in an acting capacity pending Senate’s confirmation of his reappointment,” Presidency disclosed on Friday.

The PUNCH reports that protests trailed the announcements of both Atikase and Okang into the board of the interventionist agency.

The PUNCH reported on Thursday how scores of demonstrators took to the streets of Abuja to protest the appointment of Okang, who is said to be a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, as the Commissioner representing Cross River State on the NDDC board.

The protest came on the heels of a similar one held in Calabar, the Cross River capital, on Wednesday.

No official reason has been given why Atikase’s name was dropped as of the time of filing this report.
