Thomas Tuchel apologised to new Bayern Munich signing Harry Kane after the Bundesliga champions suffered a 3-0 defeat to RB Leipzig in the German Super Cup.

Leipzig came out on top in Germany’s equivalent to the Community Shield in England as Dani Olmo scored a hat-trick in an impressive victory at the Allianz Arena.

Former Tottenham captain Kane came on as a second-half substitute to huge cheers from the Bayern fans just hours after his £86m move from Spurs was confirmed.

But Kane, 30, was unable to make an impact as RB Leipzig denied the England striker the first trophy of his career.

‘I’m just sorry for Harry Kane, he probably thinks we haven’t trained for four weeks,’ Bayern Munich boss Tuchel said.

‘Our performance today had nothing to do with what we set out to do. It’s a very bitter evening, I’m sorry.’
