Many residents in the Lekki area of Lagos State trooped out in their numbers to cast their votes on Saturday morning in the presidential and National Assembly polls.
Unfortunately officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission are still yet to arrive at many polling units in the area as at 11am
A resident at Jakande, Godswill, who spoke with our correspondent said, “We are many here, we have come out to vote but in all the polling units I have visited in Jakande this morning, more than eight, only one of them has INEC officials present. We are still waiting for them.”
While in Agungi area of Lekki, our correspondent visited six polling units and as at 11am only two polling units, PU 025 and PU 027, had INEC officials present.
One of the residents, Comfort, said, ” There are no INEC officials available. We have been waiting here since 8am. There’s no sign on election holding here, except the plenty people here.”
Another resident lamenting the absence of the INEV officials said, “These people are using lateness as an excuse so we wouldn’t vote. They said voting ends at 2:30pm and as at past 11am they are yet to arrive, not to talk of voting.”
Our correspondent noticed that some of the locals have opened their shops for business and have started selling food to the waiting voters.
Polling units at Ajiran Primary School 1, Ajiran Primary School 11, have INEC officials present.
But polling units at Bakare Estate main gate, John Okafor gate, Chevron main gate, Ibrahim Odofin, Ajiran Palace still had no INEC official present as at the time of filing this report.
